Emergency Medical Services Observational Experience

Norton Healthcare offers a professional, structured observation program for flight nurses, paramedics, EMTs and other first responders to enhance their knowledge of stroke and learn more about the state-of-the-art treatment and interventions available at Norton Healthcare.

Participants will witness the full experience at Norton Brownsboro Hospital, a Comprehensive Stroke Center. From initial patient intake to operations in the biplane X-ray rooms, participants will see firsthand the diagnostic and interventional procedures performed and the leading-edge care provided by Norton Healthcare.

There will be opportunities to learn about advanced technology and imaging used during stroke procedures, and to meet the neurosurgeons and stroke team, including the advanced practice providers, stroke outreach coordinator, interventional radiology technicians, scrub technicians, nurses, nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologists.

Experience Requirements

This program is for emergency medical services workers, including flight nurses, paramedics, EMTs and first responders in the Greater Louisville region. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. If not, a completed authorization form from a legal guardian is required.

Due to systemwide challenges to our web-based platforms, we are not able to receive emails from non-Norton Healthcare email addresses. As a result, all nonemployee observational experience applicants are currently required to submit immunization records via in-person drop-off.

  • Bring a COPY of your MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), hepatitis B, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) flu shot (If applying Sept. 1 through May 31) and tuberculosis record (TB result from within the last year) to the Norton Healthcare Learning Center: 9500 Ormsby Station Road, Suite 200 Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Inside the building, proceed to the second floor.

If you’re in contact with a current Norton Healthcare employee, you may have them submit immunization records on your behalf via a Norton Healthcare email address. We will not receive submissions from external email addresses.

  • For internal Norton Healthcare email addesses, email your MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), hepatitis B, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) flu shot (If applying Sept. 1 through May 31) and TB record (TB result from within the last year) to JobShadow@nortonhealthcare.org.

Current Norton Healthcare employees applying for the observational experience do not need to submit immunization records, as these were already collected as part of part of the employment process.

The observational experience team will reach out to you once your job shadow experience has been approved. If you have any questions, contact us at (502) 446-5902.
