‘Human Trafficking: In Plain Sight’ — A 2-part videoconference

A two-part videoconference, “Human Trafficking: In Plain Sight” will be held Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, offering clinicians insight on spotting human trafficking victims and what to do.

Because victims of trafficking may seek medical attention for the medical and psychological consequences of assault and neglected health conditions, health care professionals are in a unique position to identify victims and provide assistance.

Estimates show that approximately 80% of human trafficking victims are women, and health care providers often are the first professionals to have contact with trafficked women and girls.

One study found that close to 50% of trafficked individuals saw a health care professional during their exploitation.

This program will provide information on the prevalence of human trafficking in Kentucky, red flags of trafficking so victims can be identified when they access the health care system, communication strategies with potential victims, proper protocol when trafficking is suspected and resources for patients who are victims of human trafficking.
