John T. Hamm, M.D., director of Norton Cancer Institute’s research program and chairman of the Norton Hospital Cancer Committee, will lead the Quality of Care Council of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
The Quality of Care Council provides strategic guidance on ASCO’s cancer quality activities, leadership in joint efforts with other societies and external organizations in the area of cancer care quality.
This group oversees other ASCO quality committees including the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Steering Group, QOPI Certification, Quality Training Program, Measures Steering Group, Quality Publications and the International Quality Task Force. The chair position reports to the ASCO president and board.
Dr. Hamm, an oncologist specializing in lung cancer and clinical research at Norton Cancer Institute, also was recognized with a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology designation at the ASCO 2020 Virtual Meeting in June.

I feel it makes our patient care far better than it would be otherwise.”
Dr. Hamm is a co-founder of Norton Cancer Institute. A Louisville native, he received his medical degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed his formal training in Louisville. Dr. Hamm is board certified in internal medicine with a subspecialty in medical oncology.
