Norton Healthcare is proud to welcome vascular surgeon Peter L. Albrecht Jr., D.O., to Norton Heart & Vascular Institute, enhancing the institute’s established expertise in advanced endovascular and aortic procedures. Dr. Albrecht’s fellowship training and experience with the latest minimally invasive and device-based techniques expand options for referring providers seeking comprehensive vascular care — from complex aneurysm repair to limb preservation and stroke prevention.Dr. Albrecht earned his medical degree from University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine; completed his residency at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio; and completed a two-year vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky, Lexington.
Dr. Albrecht provides comprehensive vascular care, specializing in minimally invasive and advanced endovascular techniques for arterial and venous disease. His fellowship training positions him at the forefront of vascular innovation, with a strong emphasis on limb preservation and stroke prevention.“I particularly enjoy complex aortic aneurysm repairs,” Dr. Albrecht said. “My clinical interests include treating carotid artery stenosis and using innovative methods such as physician-modified grafting, parallel grafting and laser fenestration for complex aortic repair.”Notably, Dr. Albrecht brings experience with thoracoabdominal branch endoprosthesis (TAMBE), the newest Food and Drug Administration-approved device for treating thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, offering patients access to leading-edge treatment options. Also specializing in peripheral vascular disease management, he offers treatment for chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins and dialysis access procedures. He is also certified as a registered physician in vascular interpretation, ensuring the highest standard of care for his patients.Dr. Albrecht maintains an active role in advancing the field through research and scholarly contributions. His work includes presentations on late-onset paralysis after open intercostal implant and limb salvage techniques using posterior approach femoral-popliteal bypass.
Dr. Albrecht is passionate about his patient care philosophy, which centers on helping people understand both surgical and nonsurgical options to help them make informed and confident decisions.“When working with patients, vascular surgery is a complicated and often difficult-to-understand specialty, especially when we are trying to describe our endovascular approach,” he said. “My job is to try to make it as easy to understand as possible for our patients.”
Dr. Albrecht’s patient-first approach emphasizes preventive measures, long-term follow-up care and discerning surgical decision-making.“While I love to operate, if I do not feel a surgery will benefit the patient, I am not going to offer it,” he said.
Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Albrecht is passionate about culinary medicine, having volunteered at the University of Dayton’s culinary medicine teaching kitchen to promote healthy lifestyles. He enjoys traveling with his wife, Norton Community Medical Associates family medicine physician Kelli R. Albrecht, D.O., exploring new restaurants, attending live music events, golfing, exercising and cooking, with his specialty being “a red wine braised short rib with blue cheese grits.” A devoted University of Kentucky fan, he brings that same loyalty and energy to his practice and patient care at Norton Heart & Vascular Institute.
