The affiliation between Norton Healthcare, UofL Physicians – Pediatrics and the University of Louisville School of Medicine makes it easier for children and their families to access comprehensive endocrinology care connected to the Norton Children’s network.
This network provides a collaboration between subspecialties, access to inpatient care and improved continuity of care through Epic electronic medical records throughout the Norton Children’s system. Norton EpicLink allows providers to make a referral and stay connected to their patient’s progress, testing and care notes for any Norton Children’s encounter.
Specialists at Norton Children’s Endocrinology, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, have the training and experience to treat all types of endocrine conditions, including Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as short-term and chronic disorders of the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands and gonads (testicles and ovaries), and growth issues in children.

The Norton Children’s Endocrinology team offers:
- On-call endocrinologists in emergency departments, inpatient care and outpatient treatment.
- Certified diabetes educators, nurses, psychologists, social workers, child life specialists, exercise physiologists, pharmacists and nurse practitioners to help children and families learn to manage and cope with diabetes
- Care using the most advanced insulin management and glucose sensing technology
- Kentucky’s only pediatric metabolic bone program
- Kentucky’s first and only pediatric and adolescent gender education program for the evaluation and management of issues related to sexual development
- Transition to adult with diabetes program for teens and young adults ages 16 to 26
- Christensen Family Sports & Activity Program focused on improving the health, safety and athletic performance of pediatric and young adult patients with diabetes
