Register now for the 2019 Medical Ethics Symposium

The 2019 Medical Ethics Symposium will be held Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Norton Healthcare Learning Center.

The symposium is free and is designed to educate individuals who currently perform health care ethics consultations or who would like to perform ethics consultations in the future, including members of hospital ethics committees, chaplains, physicians, nurses and other health care providers.

Ellen Fox, M.D., president of Fox Ethics Consulting in Washington, D.C., will present “Medical Ethics 101: Developing Your Consulting Expertise.” The course goal is to improve participants’ knowledge and competence in health care ethics consultation. Following the symposium, participants will be able to:

  • Identify potential gaps in their current ethics consultation practices.
  • Describe the steps and substeps of the clarify, assemble, synthesize, explain, support (CASES) approach.
  • Recognize when it is necessary to refer an ethics consultation to an advanced-level ethics consultant.

Continuing education

Physicians

Accreditation: Norton Healthcare is accredited by the Kentucky Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation: Norton Healthcare designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses

Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) Approved Provider: Norton Healthcare, provider No. 4-0002-12-20-036. The program has been approved by Norton Healthcare for 2.2 contact hours that expire 12/31/2020. KBN approval of a continuing education provider does not constitute endorsement of program content. Nursing participants must attend the entire program and complete the evaluation to receive contact hours. No partial credit will be given.

Social workers

This activity will provide 2.0 hours of continuing education units (CEU). Norton Healthcare is an approved provider for social worker credits through the National Association of Social Workers, Kentucky chapter (NASW-KY). Approval: NASWKY#031219.  Social workers are eligible for the self-claim credit through the Kentucky Board of Social Work.

Location and Parking

The Norton Healthcare Learning Center is located at 9500 Ormsby Station Road, Louisville, Kentucky, off North Hurstbourne Parkway. The symposium will be held on the second floor in rooms 1A and 1B. A parking lot is available near the building.

You must preregister to attend the light dinner at 4:30 p.m. Walk-in registrations are discouraged, as we cannot guarantee a seat or meal. Please register no later than Tuesday, March 5, 2019.
