Mustafa Barbour, M.D., brings innovative hematology/oncology care to Louisville-area children

Mustafa Barbour, M.D.,  a pediatric hematologist/oncologist, is active in bringing new and innovative treatments to patients at Norton Children’s Cancer Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. Dr. Barbour, who has been caring for children with cancer and blood disorders since his fellowship training in 2008, is a subinvestigator on a number of clinical trials.

Dr. Barbour joined the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 2017 as an associate professor of pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant.

He is active in training the next generation of pediatric hematology/oncology specialists as the director of the three-year Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at UofL.

Dr. Barbour completed his medical degree at the University of Damascus School of Medicine, in  Syria, in 2004. He completed his residency in general pediatrics at the UofL School of Medicine in 2008 before starting his fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Barbour has presented widely and published in several peer-reviewed research publications on topics ranging from brain tumors in children to small-cell lung carcinoma and myeloid leukemia.
