Norton Healthcare Center for Continuing Medical Education

Our Mission

The Norton Healthcare Center for Continuing Medical Education strives to provide high-quality continuing medical education (CME) opportunities for physicians and other health care providers. These accredited activities are intended to improve competence, performance and overall patient outcomes.

It is our goal to meet the health care needs and improve the health status of people in the communities Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s serves. By working with our comprehensive medical staff and with our long commitment to quality, strategic partnerships and affiliations, we are dedicated to serving as a regional leader in providing quality, certified continuing education opportunities. Our activities are built on a platform of scientifically sound, evidence-based medicine, enhancing patient care.

Accreditation

Norton Healthcare is accredited by the Kentucky Medical Association to provide continuing medical education activities for physicians. Norton Healthcare strictly adheres to the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education policies, accreditation criteria and standards for commercial support. We have received accreditation with commendation (the highest level) for a six-year term.

Activity Planning

Continuing medical education opportunities can be offered by Norton Healthcare medical staff and others. Prior to planning your continuing medical education activity, contact the Norton Healthcare Center for Continuing Medical Education. A member of our team will review guidelines, required forms and the planning process. In accordance with the mission of the Center for Continuing Medical Education, activities should address a professional gap and be designed to change competence, performance and/or patient outcomes.

As you plan your activity, reference the American Medical Association’s policy definition of CME:

“Educational activities which serve to maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills and professional performance and relationships that a physician uses to provide services for patients, the public or the profession. The content of CME is the body of knowledge and skills generally recognized and accepted by the profession as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine and the provision of health care to the public.” (AMA House of Delegates Policy No. 300.988)

Prior to planning a continuing medical education program, contact the Center for Continuing, Medical Education for forms and guidelines at cme@nortonhealthcare.org.
