Norton Leatherman Spine surgeon’s spinal deformity articles are most cited

Steven D. Glassman, M.D., orthopedic spine surgeon with at Norton Leatherman Spine, has authored the two most frequently cited articles on spinal deformity, according to a long-term analysis published in the journal Spine.

The analysis listed the 100 top-cited articles on spinal deformities on record. Two articles by Dr. Glassman, each published in 2005, led the list with 775 citations each. One addressed the correlation of radiographic parameters and clinical symptoms in adult scoliosis. The other dealt with the impact of positive sagittal balance in adult spinal deformity.

“It is crucial for clinicians to identify research with a higher impact whose conclusions are usually more credible,” the study’s authors wrote. According to the study’s authors, the ranking of spinal deformity articles by citation count provides a measure of the scientific impact of the work.

The ranking also gives researchers insights into priorities and trends that could help future academic pursuits.
