Norton Children’s Neonatology, affiliated with UofL School of Medicine, delivers advanced, high-acuity for newborns in three Norton Children’s neonatal intensive care units (NICUs)

  • Norton Clark Hospital- Level II NICU

Our NICUs are equipped for the most complex neonatal cases, with immediate access to pediatric subspecialists, advanced imaging, and full surgical capabilities.

Our NICUs are staffed by a multidisciplinary team experienced in neonatal critical care, including:

  • Board-certified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and physician assistants
  • NICU-trained registered nurses and patient care assistants
  • Respiratory, physical, occupational, and speech therapists
  • Pediatric pharmacists
  • Clinical laboratory professionals
  • Lactation consultants, neonatal nutritionists and specialty trained milk technicians

  • Pediatric support team specialists

For extremely low birth weight infants (≤1,250 grams), the Tiny Baby Unit within our Level IV NICU at Norton Children’s Hospital provides an environment designed to optimize stability, neurodevelopment, and growth. Patients typically transition to the general NICU around 1,500 grams or 32 weeks corrected gestational age for continued care until discharge.

Norton Children’s Neonatology also provides care at other NICU’s across Kentucky and Southern Indiana, including:
