The UofL School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics has worked together with Norton Children’s for nearly 100 years on caring for the patients of the region, training the doctors of tomorrow, conducting research and innovating in the field of child health.
On March 1, 2020, an academic affiliation was signed, resulting in the formation of Norton Children’s Medical Group, affiliated with UofL School of Medicine. Norton Children’s employs a comprehensive array of clinicians in pediatric primary care and pediatric specialty medicine, all of which hold faculty appointments at the UofL School of Medicine.
Together we recognize the importance of teaching the next generation of pediatric providers, as well as the importance of clinical research and innovation, in growing a regionally and nationally recognized pediatric academic healthcare system of care.
Norton Children’s Hospital is the primary teaching facility for pediatrics at the UofL School of Medicine. The Department of Pediatrics offers a nationally recognized categorical pediatric residency and child neurology residency, multiple pediatric fellowships and a psychology internship program designed to empower future pediatric caregivers with the skills, autonomy and expertise needed to excel in patient care and medical leadership.
Through the affiliation, Norton Children’s Research Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, enhances clinical research and innovation efforts, an essential part of the UofL School of Medicine’s and Norton Children’s academic mission. Together, we are broadening knowledge of pediatric diseases; discovering new therapies and ultimately improving care; ensuring children can access clinical trials close to home; and facilitating education and training in research initiatives for the medical providers of tomorrow.
