As the practice grows, Norton Orthopedic Institute’s role with University of Louisville athletics has grown as well as its surgeons provide arm and hand care for UofL athletes.
With Norton Sports Health as the official health care provider of the Louisville Cardinals, our team performs triage on injured players and, if necessary, sends them to subspecialists on an outpatient or an emergency basis within hours of an on-field or on-court injury.
We also are providing orthopedic arm and hand education for all University of Louisville orthopedic surgery residents. Surgeons and residents have access to the Bioskills Lab for research and surgical anatomy training.

In addition, hand surgeons with Norton Louisville Arm & Hand cover Level 1 pediatric trauma at Norton Children’s Hospital and provide care for congenital hand anomalies in children.
In the operating room, Norton Louisville Arm & Hand surgeons are performing more wide-awake surgery under local anesthesia when possible for patients who prefer not to be sedated. We also are performing joint replacement and complex reconstructive procedures for the hand, wrist and elbow.
Norton Louisville Arm & Hand also now offers both surgical and nonsurgical options for Dupuytren contracture, a progressive hand condition occurring when a thick cord of tissue causes a contracture in the palm that can limit the ability to straighten the fingers. In addition to the traditional surgical procedures, we offer injections of Xiaflex (collagenase clostridium histolyticum), which breaks down the cord causing the contracture.
Finally, Norton Louisville Arm & Hand is involved in clinical research as a participating site in a multicentered National Institutes of Health-sponsored trial comparing surgical treatments of ulnar nerve compression at the elbow, also known as cubital tunnel syndrome.
