Douglas A. Nelson, M.D., has joined Norton Cancer Institute, practicing at the downtown Louisville and St. Matthews offices.
Dr. Nelson most recently was an associate professor in the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology and Department of General Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center – The Woodlands, in Conroe. Dr. Nelson served as medical director of MD Anderson The Woodlands from 2014 to 2016.
Dr. Nelson spent the early part of his medical career in military service, leaving the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel in 2009. While in the Air Force, he served as the local principal investigator for a number of national oncology clinical trials.
Dr. Nelson is board certified in hematology and medical oncology. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, and completed residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base in Texas.
