The current Kentucky physician reporting period for continuing medical education (CME) is approaching the end of this cycle. The current reporting cycle runs from Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2026. Now is a good time to check your transcripts to ensure you are on track to meet all licensure requirements. For activities accredited by Norton Healthcare, this can be done easily by signing into your account at NortonCME.com and running a transcript for the reporting period.
During this three-year period, physicians must complete 60 hours of CME. At least 30 hours must be AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. The remaining hours may be AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ or AMA PRA Category 2 Credits™.
As a part of this education, Kentucky physicians must complete specific mandated training, depending on their scope of practice. Physicians who prescribe or dispense controlled substances are required to complete 4.5 hours of House Bill 1 (HB1) credits per reporting cycle. Another mandated training requirement for physicians who care for pediatric patients is Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma (PAHT). This requires physicians to complete 1 hour of credit, one time within five years of licensure. For mandated courses, they must be approved by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure which will be listed in the course accreditation information. For a complete listing Kentucky licensure requirements, visit the Kentucky Medical Association site.
A variety of mandated training opportunities are available at NortonCME.com. To find these courses, select the “On-Demand/Online Activities” or “Podcasts” options and then from the drop-down menu, select “Mandated Trainings” to see what is available. Course offerings are updated regularly. Mandated courses are also available on the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure site.
Staying current with CME and mandated training requirements helps ensure uninterrupted licensure. Review your progress now to avoid last-minute deadlines.
