From the NICU to pediatric care symposium coming soon

A continuing medical education symposium designed to assist pediatric care providers in delivering appropriate care to children transitioning from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Norton Healthcare Learning Center (9500 Ormsby Station Road, Louisville, Kentucky).

This symposium will benefit pediatric care providers (physicians, physician extenders and nurses in pediatrics and neonatology) with current research and practice guidelines for improving the short- and long-term outcomes for premature and medically complex infants.

Objectives for the symposium:

  • Determine adequate growth and nutrition for premature infants after NICU discharge.
  • Recognize special health care needs for infants affected by neonatal abstinence syndrome.
  • Define chronic lung disease and optimal post-NICU management of infants on home oxygen and apnea monitors.
  • Identify normal and abnormal developmental milestones for high-risk infants.
  • Discuss transition of care from the neonatal intensive care unit to pediatric providers.
  • Recognize long-term health and developmental issues affecting premature infants.
