Patients who need lactation support can get help at any time, any day, at no cost through Norton eCare.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had mixed effects for breastfeeding mothers. For some, the increased time at home, reduced pressure and drop-off in visitors was helpful, according to a study conducted by surveying 1,219 breastfeeding mothers online in the United Kingdom.
On the other hand, others reported difficulty getting support, worrying about the safety of feeding and feeling isolated, the study found. Those in challenging circumstances tended to be in the group facing difficulty.
Anyone in Kentucky or Indiana needing help with breastfeeding can get free support anytime, any day, through Norton eCare. Local Norton Healthcare providers are on hand to help through the patient’s MyNortonChart account. Patients who don’t have a free MyNortonChart account can sign up quickly.

The eCare providers can help with common concerns such as latching on, supply, whether baby is eating enough, and issues with the breast including mastitis, engorgement and clogged ducts.
“First-time moms as well as experienced mothers sometimes need a little extra help and not always during office hours,” said Rachel Alexander, APRN, a nurse practitioner with Norton eCare. “Anyone needing some help and support breastfeeding while at home can take advantage of this service at no cost.”
Patients can get more information or make an appointment for lactation support via telehealth at NortonHealthcare.com/Breastfeeding-Support.
All visits are private and held through a secure video connection on the patient’s phone, tablet or computer. After the patient’s visit, a summary will be sent to their MyNortonChart account to share with their regular provider. Visits are available 24/7 so even if it is in the middle of the night, you can schedule a visit.
Patients also can take advantage of Norton Healthcare’s Breastfeeding Essentials class taught by a certified lactation counselor. The class is designed for expectant moms who have decided to nurse their infants as well as those who are undecided on an infant feeding method. Support persons are encouraged to attend.
